hi

does anyone know a cheap soundsystem for the G5 with 5.1???
can i plug the creative inspire GD580 to my G5, without having trouble??
because this SS is designed for gameing, e.g. with a playstation or a DVD player.
there is an optical and a coaixal (i think i've wrote this wrong) input.
means this automaticaly that i can just plug in, and there is 5.1 support (the SS has 5 satelites and 1 subwoofer)???

It looks like it'd fit in the optical out port. Although I don't have a G5 so can't check for you.

hey, this image is from the apple homepage.
apple.com/powermac -> extensions :)

and the same plug is on the consol from the GD580.

but i've read sometimes about a "optical", or a "coaxial" and "S/PDIF" interface.

now thats the reason why i'm sceptic.

That cable is the universal standard for OPTICAL digital consumer electronics (appart from minidisc they need a small adapter to fit into their smaller optical input). As long as you have an optical digital input on the sound system you want, it'll work fine. Forget about the others, even if the sound system can support them, the G5 doesn't use coaxial or S/PDIF.

Oh yeah, make sure you switch your output to digital in the sound preference pane.
