I recently bought a used Macbook pro, Snow Leopard. Changed the full name to mine but of course the short name change is harder. I've read that changing the short name can result in application issues with home folder. Is it a safer bet to reinstall OSX?

G'day and welcome to the forums.

Unless youklnow what you are doing, leave Terminal well and truly alone.

When you purchase a used computer, make sure you get the current operating system discs, format and do a clean install with your password etc.

Yes, I have the discs and will probably go that route. No need to mess up a perfectly good laptop.

Thx for confirming!
