CDR won't work but DVDR does

Hi, My Macbook Pro Intel base CDR stopped working. The funny thing is that the DVDR still works. Anyone come across this problem? Is this something that software can fix? I am assuming the CDR and DVDR is using the same optic. Help!

Just remembered! This happened after I updated to 10.4.9, maybe this would help.
