Hi,

I'm new to macs and I'm trying to resurect a G4 that had died, I did a clean install of 10.2 which was all OK but I can't get anything newer on it.

I installed xPostFacto and now I'm stuck!

I have a screen telling me:
ROM ndrv for ATY, mach64 is too old (0xab9350d5)
ROM ndrv for ATY, XCLAIM is too old (0xab9350d5)
AppleRS232serial: 0 0 AppleRS232serial::start - returning false early, connector or machine incorrect
ROM ndrv for ATY, Rage128pd is too old (0xab9350d5)
obtaining ID for registry
ATIRage128: using AGP
Local firewire GUID = 0x3065ff:0xfeb87c42
setting cache to 0

Now I think I can solve this if I could start the maching another way and get past this message, I've tried safe mode starting to no avail

Please help!

As long as you have USB, FireWire and DVD drive (which your G4 should have all of that, with only the DVD being the possible exception) you should not need XpostFacto to install anything.
If I were you, I would wipe the drive again, then try installing OS X again.

Great, I'll do that, but how do I start it up again? I can't get any further than the message above....

Put the CD/DVD in the drive and restart with the 'c' key held down. It should then boot up from the CD/DVD.

had to disconnect hard disk to allow to boot from cd, this worked and allowed me to format the disk from the instillation CD, still on 10.2 tho!

I'll keep trying!
