Can't believe i did it myself

ok this is terrable, I was wanting to clean up my desktop one night and i must have went dillussional becuz the next thing I know a bunch of my files and folders were gone and i couldnt retreve them back..Also i dont know how i ended up here but i was in disk utilitys and didnt have a clue why or what i was doing there. Now I cannot find any of my pictures or games etc...I'm seriously needing major help here . Can anyone pleeeeease help me??!!

check the trash if you put them there but did not empty it you can drag them back out.

Did you happen to rename your home folder by any chance? Your home folder is in your MacintoshHD > Users > yourhomefolder. If you renamed that, it automatically creates a new account or something like that deleting your files in the bargain.
