Cannot erase HGST Travelstar 7K1000, 1 TB HD

I just installed a new HGST Travelstar 7K1000, 1 TB HD on my MacBook Pro mie 2009 but cannot erase it. I get the following Error message.
Disk Erase failed with the error:
Unable to write to the last block of the device.

Anyone with a solution for this.

Where did you buy it? Return it if you can and get a refund or a new drive. Not being able to write to the last block could be a physical defect in the drive or it may even be protected by Hitachi.
