Can the iMac remote magnet harm nearby electronics?

I have a white iMac with the internal magnet on the right-hand side, for holding the remote. I normally keep my portable hard drive a few centimeters near it (I don't have too much space in my room). I've read that the magnet is pretty weak, but still, is there risk of causing harm or data erase ?

Your portable hard drive is well-shielded and should not be affected by a small magnet. As a general rule, keep sensitive electronic equipment and materials at least 30 centimetres away from magnets, especially electromagnets.
