I have about 63gb of Movies in iTunes, 8.8gb of songs, 15.85gb of audiobooks, 2.97gb of podcasts and 3.5gb of TV shows. I have only about 600mb of photos in iPhoto. With only 40gb in Apple TV, can I pick and choose what I want to send to it? - instead of it just grabbing whatever it can get to fill up 40gb?
Can someone explain how APPle TV syncs?...

Yes - in each tab (one for each type) you can select what you want to sync. The only thing that can ONLY play from the Apple TV is your photographs - everything else will stream from the Mac it is synced up to.
