Can power supplies for old Macs be used on a new one?

I am currently using a MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019) and this is running on 11.4.
My previous MPB was "mid 2014" and ran on 10.13.6. That one is no longer working but I still have the power supply. (In fact, I bought that power supply in France in 2018 because the previous power supply stopped working. It has a 2-pin plug for French sockets but there are obviously mains adapters that will obviate this problem.)

In both cases, the power comes from the power supply via a USB plug - but the sockets on these two Macs are not the same. Are there adapters that will allow me to use my current MPB in conjunction with the power supply for the "mid 2014" model? How about the voltage from the two supplies? Unfortunately, I don't have a volt meter to hand.

Thanks in advance.

You don't need to worry about the output or input voltage. All Apple Power supplies are universal, in other words, they can be used world wide. However, your older supply will need an adapter which you can purchase most anywhere.

The older supply will work with your newer MBP (with the proper adapter) but will take longer to charge the battery on the 2019 model. The reason is the older supply has a lower output, thus, it will take longer to charge up your 2019 which has a larger capacity battery than the 2014 model.

Thanks very much for the information.
In fact I already have a small adapter that will go into my current MPB. This has a small (male) connection that goes into the MPB; the other end of the adapter has a USB socket.
So I now need a cable with USB at both ends ... guess I must have one somewhere but in any event they are surely available.

We weren't told exactly what model 2014 MacBook Pro this is...but one parameter that should be paid attention to is the output of each power supply (in watts).

* 13" 2014 MacBook Pro originally came with a 60 Watt power supply
* 15" 2014 MacBook Pro originally came with a 85 Watt power supply
* 16" 2019 MacBook Pro originally came with a 96 Watt power supply

If using one of the 2014 MacBook Pro power supplies with the 16" 2019 MacBook Pro is the question...either 2014 power supply will probably work ok (with the proper adapter to fit the power port on the 16" MacBook Pro).

But under certain higher load/higher demand circumstances (especially with the 2014 60 watt power supply)...it may not be able to supply enough power to the 16" MacBook Pro (since the original 2016 MacBook Pro is rated for 96 watts).
