Calendar pane obstructing

Macair-Os8.5. My Calendar program is obstructed by an 'event' pane that will not cancel. It can be moved around with the mouse but I cannot use the calendar as nothing can be entered anywhere in the program. It occurred because I accidentally entered too much data in an 'event' pane in the 'Week' section.. Force quitting didn't help, the rogue pane returns in front of the screen. Can anyone advise please?
