Hello Everyone -

On my MBPro 16" running the latest operating system and updates, my Calendar App contains appointments I made many years ago.

Is there a way to completely clear the Calendars App and start over?

Many thanks and regards to all -

Richard

Hi Richard,

Nice to see you back again.

I'm not sure if this is what you are after:

Open Calendar > Calendar Preferences > Advanced

At the bottom you will see "Remove all recent locations and attendees". Before taking any action, click on the "?" to the right of it. That will open a small window which explains all of the actions, at the bottom of which, it tells you what choosing that option really means. Read it carefully and decide if that's what you want.

I’m a bit puzzled by, “my Calendar App contains appointments I made many years ago.” were these recurring events or events set in the future?
Of course your calendar may be a lot busier than mine but the only events I see in eg. next month are recurring events like birthdays and anniversaries and the few upcoming events relevant to this year.

Hello Ian and Rod -

Thank you, Ian - always good to have your input on my "issues." After I read your response, I opened Calendar Preferences --->Advanced and when I got to "Remove all recent locations and attendees" it is grayed out. I tried checking and unchecking boxes, but it is still grayed out. The ? link was very helpful - thank you very much indeed. I can't make any changes due to the grayed out situation.

Rod, I often made a calendar to write in my 45 to 50 appointments per week - and it was set to recurring events - still is, I believe.

Regards,

Richard

Is there a way to completely clear the Calendars App and start over?

Try this:

Quit your Calendar app.

Click on the Finder icon in your dock (likely at the far left of your dock).

While holding down the Option key, choose Library from the Go menu

Open the Calendars folder.

Find the Calendar Cache file (or files) and move it (or them) somewhere like your desktop. (You can trash it/them once you are sure that your Calendar app has been reset the way that you want it to be.)

Hi Randy -

Thank you - that has done all my previous and future appointments which I shall now build back. I was left with all of my contacts birthdays - not really needed. Any way to delete them?

Thanks very much to all!

Best,

Rich

Hi Richard

I think I can answer this one for you :)

Open your Calendar app.

In the top left you will see this:

S1x.jpg
Click on the calendars icon as shown by red arrow.

You will then see this:

S2x.jpg

As you've deleted a lot, the view may be different, but I think you should see Birthdays as shown by red arrow. Untick it.

BTW, this is where you decide whether you want UK holidays show on your calendar. You can also create a personal calendar (ticked Ian in the screenshot); a Work, Home etc calendars if you wish.
