A warm welcome to Mac-Forums. Thank you for your post. In my Mac and other devices, when using WhatsApp, typing "c" does nothing other than print the letter. If I type "esc", it closes the message, BUT, if you open it up again, whatever typing there was, is retained. Similarly, Clicking on the Apple icon , I get a Dropdown list. I can get System Settings, no problem, and if I Click on "Recent Items" it shows me a whole list of things I have recently opened. I fully realise that telling you this is no help to you at all; but it does suggest that you may have, in the past, altered the actions of the various Keys. For example, if I type "@" twice, that prints my email address and I have created other shortcut abbreviations. Is it possible that you changed the "reaction or meaning" of certain keys on your Keyboard? (System Settings > Keyboard) - various options there. Ian
