I just ordered an Aluminum unibody macbook for $800. I think there was one left still. Avoid if possible core duo machines and stick with core2 duo. Also, watch out for the early core2 macbooks with original 80gb drives. These have been known to have defects with the HD (though it's very easy to replace).

Agreed, Also make sure he gets the newer Core2Duo that way he expand the RAM to 6GB instead 3GB.

Have you looked at the refurbished laptop's in the apple store? There are several benefits to buying directly from apple, and it is on average much safer to do so. Plus you get a standard one year warranty.

I would suggest that if you live in a decent sized city, that you use craigslist instead of ebay. A macbook is something you could easily be misled about on a ebay description. If you use craigslist you can test out he macbook before you buy it.

All the ones you showed were the older core duo versions which I wouldn't want... at the very least look for a core 2 duo running at least at 2.16 (the speed wont matter for much, but if you decide to run windows on it with bootcamp some windows programs for watching HD content is a little unstable below 2.16)
