Browsers (Safari & Chrome) shut down automatically and randomly

I've been using a MacBook for many years, but can't figure out the solution to this problem.

From time to time, and it's usually when the MacBook goes into hibernation, Safari and Chrome just shut down. They look and act exactly like I manually closed them. When I reopen the browser, there's no message about accidentally closing and asking about restoring the tabs.

Why? I even changed the preference in Chrome to warn before shut down, but that didn't help. It's very frustrating when I'm halfway through a very long YouTube presentation, and come back from lunch and Chrome is shut down. Sure, I can go find these pages again by searching through history, but it's a pain in the rear.

How do I stop this from happening?

PS: oh yea, I'm running Yosemite and the MacBook was bought brand new last July.

I've had the same problem in those browsers and IE, as well. I can't find anything on it.

IE doesn't work in OS X so if this is happening in Windows, you might be better seeking out a solution elsewhere.

For the other two posters, does it only happen with browsers? Are they perhaps just hiding?

No, I am running OS X on a MacBook Pro. I have tried it in all three browsers (Chrome, Firefox, and IE) with the same results. And to answer your question, the browsers aren't hiding. They fully shut down while all other programs remain open and unchanged.

Oh, I'm an idiot, I'm sorry. NOT IE. Safari. I do apologize for the confusion.

Same Issue

I am having this same issue. I use Chrome and I believe every time I put the MacBook to sleep or it is attended overnight, Chrome shuts down. Very frustrating!
