To save on sales tax.

Thanks for contributing that post, though.

Thanks for the wish of luck.

It's no big deal if no one will buy it, I'll just get an RMA & return it to Apple.

I just thought I'd try to hook up a fellow Mac fanatic before doing that.

i even with sales tax the new mac from apple would be only 20 more. I would spend 20 to get a computer from apple just incase soemthing goes wrong, and u could upgrade anything u want on a new computer from apple.

Since you can get it cheaper elsewhere does that not apply to the prospective buyer as well? Amazon has the dual 2GHZ for $1899, tax free I believe. Same for SmallDog.com. TerraSoft sells for $1999, but I know they are tax free. So it seems while your intentions are good, you really are not hooking anybody up.

EDIT: MacMall too, 1894 for SuperDrive, 1994 for Dual Layer SuperDrive

I honestly didn't look at every online retailer to see if there were better deals out there. I got in on the Amazon deal ($1894 minus $200 rebate) & they are now out of stock, so no one else is getting that unless Amazon uncovers some more.

I paid a little over $1900 for the computer from Apple. I'm asking $2000. Paypal will take $60 in fees & the rest will go for shipping.

I'm honestly not trying to make any money on this - I just thought I'd pass on a decent deal. My apologies.

Amazon still has them in stock, and no need to apologize. As I said, I am sure your intentions are good. As your intentions are good I just felt it only fair to point out that a person could get it cheaper, delivered, from a commercial entity.

So for both you and any prospective buyer an RMA seems the right choice since the PayPal fees would match or exceed RMA shipping. That way you win (only being out RMA shipping) and everyone else wins (picking the dualie for a good price, tax free from any of a number of dealers).

Did some one here buy it or did you sell it some where else? Just curious. I think the reason some people were hesitant is that you are new here and not known. There are so many on say Ebay that come on and fraud users. I am not saying you are that way at all, but sometimes people today are carefull just in case which I can totally understand.

If I had the $2000 I would have probably went for your machine.

Take care!

Hope you still come back to the Forums here from time to time. If we can ever help you with your new Mac, let us know.

Thanks dtravis7. I sold it on another forum.

My thread was effectively sabotaged on this forum, so luckily I had it posted on a couple of others where things went a little bit more professionally.

I am sorry you feel that way. I still feel that if you were trying to give a fellow Mac user a break you were not doing so. I got as far as confirming the order with J&R at the $1899 price so the individual you sold the Mac to could have paid less by doing a modicum of research. The fact that other forums do not seek to inform their users is of no consequence to the points made.

You say you were giving them a deal. I say you were effectively ripping them off by saying it was a good deal but not pointing out that they could have gotten it cheaper. Good intentions, poor execution.

EDIT: This is not the classifieds. This is a forum where people can offer things for sale. If you post a provably poor deal then it is the point of the community to explain this.

EDIT2: I am happy you managed to get the dualie for $1694. That does not change the fact that $2000 is $100 to $200 more than they had to pay to get the exact same thing directly from a company.

$2000 is not $100 to $200 more to get the same computer from Apple. $1899 plus sales tax is $2050-$2100 depending one where you live.

Thank God this forum has lifers like you to dispell vagrants like myself from stealing people's money. I've explained my intentions too many times already - I'm not making a dime on the computer.

The fact is that I did sell the computer for $2000, and so I must not be totally out of my mind asking that, huh?

You'd best be off to stop someone paying $29.05 for an Apple Mouse when they can get it for $29 at the Apple Store.
