The left side of my stock apple ear buds is blown. There is static and a buzz in the background. I have only had my iPod for a month, and I do not listen to my music loud. Has this happened to anyone else? The right side is fine. :eek:neye:

Take it to an Apple store, or call or email them. They should replace them for you for free. Mine blew like a year after I had them...but I like it LOUD!! :)

Mine did that the other day too, but has since started working ok again. I don't listen to it loud either. Had mine since Xmas, wonder if Apple would still replace?

If you live near an Apple Store, just take it in. They may even be able to replace them on the spot. I didn't do this myself, but I know someone who did, and I have heard of the same thing happening for others.

I called apple on mine and they just sent me out a brand new pair the next day. I didn't even have to return the old ones.

So I called, and after getting disconnected 5 times by thier automated system, I finally got a real live person. They mentioned that it might be an issue with the iPod not the headphones, but said that they would send me new ones anyway. Of course I went to the apple store and bought some headphones too (i wanted the remote control.) I plugged then in and lo and behold, the RIGHT side now is blown on the new phones. I tried several different combinations of headphones and such and realized that it might indeed be the *gasp* iPod. I am using the original headphones on my laptop right now and they work fine. So, now I have called the mac people and they told me to bring it in and they will fix it or replace it. I will have to let my iPod go for about two weeks! I'm scared...how will I survive without my music?

Does anyone know how this could happen to my iPod? I have not dropped it, gotten it wet, or anything like that and I have had it for just over a month now.

I don't know what the problem is with my earbuds but they are working fine now. I think I'll take it to the genius bar just to be on the safe side though.

I did find an interesting solution to the "blown" ear bud problem. Suck on it. Don't stick your tongue out and lick it, just suck on the blown bud, like a whistle in reverse. Found this tidbit on the iPod Lounge forums...seems to have worked for lots of people.

I am glad this work, but sounds disgusting.

I'm using my iPod mini for over a year. I encounter the same problem when I use it on the train and in the gym, starting from March. The weird sound makes me crazy. I tried different headphones in different areas. Sometimes it happens and sometimes doesn't. That really **** me off. I though it was because of the hard disk. Then I though it's because of the "iPod updater". Is there any chance that it's caused by the new software??

Is there anyone has reporter this to "Apple"?

Can we change the harddisk by ourselves?

I highly doubt you can change the hard disk yourself, or any of us for that matter.

When I called apple yesterday and said I may have a blown out ear bud I asked if this could possibly be the iPod itself because someone had mentioned that earlier. The lady seemed dumbfounded that I would even mention such an idea. She also stated that while the ear buds do seem to blow they are not experiencing any typical iPod problems that would be exhibited by your listed symptoms.

I've done, it but not on purpose. hahaha, i think it's 'cause they have a paper cone (am I right, is it a cone? Eh, it's a paper thing-like-thingy) and it has some give to it. If you blow or suck on it, you can hear it move. Not great for the earbud, but it will fix a cone that's been knocked off track.
