band new to mac need a little help

ive had a mac for two days.
i only have two real issues
one is that shortcut keys wont work
i noticed when i customized command+S stopped launching my Safari browser like i set it up to
i tried reassigning the default setting and reassigning the keys but nothing will work
i tried different short cut keys and still nothing
one thing ive noticed is it will have finder in the top bar and the edit button might highlight real quick.
Help? i am very new to mac but ive used them and i am fairlly good at figuring out how to get computers to do what i want.
i dont know. and excuse my poor grammar, ha.

Command-s is the shortcut for Save a file in almost every program. Try using different keys for shortcuts. If you must use S try using command-option-s or something like that.

well it was working fine before
none the less i just did command+option+control+Y
still nothing
i had command+shift+s for sleep mode that wont work either

yeah any shortcuts i set up do not work at all i cant figure it out its super frustrating, im about to just call apple support

My left "mouse" wont work, can you tell me what to do if I want to copy and paste with the "letters"? For example cntrl+s or anything like that?
