hey i want to know if time machine will prompt me if it is going to format my external hard drive. if it doesn't prompt me i will lose a lot of precious files...
i have been using super duper to backup my files but with snow leopard it is not working correctly...and since i have time machine now i'd rather use that....

super duper formatted my external to be "compatible with mac" so does that mean that time machine doesn't have to reformat it?

You need to upgrade SuperDuper!. They've already come out with a patch for SL.

I'd do that before you switch to TM.

No bootable back up with TM either.

And as SL is a complete different OS, the first time SD backs it up it will format the drive as you can only do the Smart Backup when SL is on the external drive.

dang i really dont wanna put another 30 bucks down for super duper. but i guess it is worth it.... yeah my current backup was "backup user files only" on Tiger. So it's not like it was an entire computer backup, just the stuff i wanted.

So your saying that super duper will have to format it again anyways to start backing up with snow leopard?

If you have already paid for SD!, there is no charge for the upgrade.

Yes. If you think about it SD cannot backup a copy of Snow Leopard to the Tiger external HDD as they are two cats of a different colour indeed.

and time machine will allow you access to older versions of the same file while Superduper gives a current bootable backup - a snap shot of how it was at the time of back up.
