• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Is there any programs that come as standard on Mac that are able to convert from AVI to DVD format?

I think if you import the .avi to iMovie and then export that to iDVD, you should be able to. But I've never tried it so I could be wrong.

You might need to install Perian to be able to import .AVI into iDVD (I know I did).

I'm wondering if someone might be able to help me.
I'm trying to add multiple dvd files to a dvd to play it in my dvd player and I can't seem to do it cause I keep getting messages telling me it won't fit on disc. Because they are multiple avi files the programs are not willing to compress but rather want me to remove some of the avi files.

Does anyone know how to do this?

Please advise if you are aware of the solution to this.

There has got to be away.

Thanks.

If you have a dvd player that will play avi files, then burn them in avi format to the dvd as Data type.

If you need them to be converted, then when they are converted to mpeg2, the file is going to be much larger. Depending on the length of the movie files, you will only be able to fit 2 or 3 on a DVD if they are 1 hour each...and so on. Not sure about telling it to compress the mpeg2 further, most likely you will lose video / audio quality to make more fit on a DVD if it is even possible.

FFMPEGX

This will convert most video files into any other file. There is a forum and there are guides on that site also.
