"Automatic" download saves?

I'm running a MacBook with Leopard. When someone sends me a funny video or an Adobe file, etc. or I'm looking at something in YouTube, it is automatically saved in my Downloads folder. Can I prevent that from happening and/or can I set it so it will ASK me if I want to save it in the Downloads folder? TIA.

Yup. In Firefox to go Preferences and it's on the first tab. Not sure about Safari, but it'll be there somewhere.

If you're talking about Mail it's under the General tab.
