Australian telecom giant dumps 5,000 Macs
October 30, 2003 - 10:48 EST Australian telecommunications company Optus is dumping 5,000 Macs as part of a multi-million dollar overhaul of its information technology architecture. Australian IT reports that the move ends "11 years of loyalty which began in 1992 with the rollout of the user-friendly machines across the company in the world's largest business deployment of the computers... Optus was now in the process of moving all its users to Windows-based machines, insiders said. In recent years, the Windows machines have started to push aside Apple in Optus, grabbing about 50 percent of its 10,000 desktops."

My Comments: Well that was a dumb move!

Telstra wouldnt buy any macs in the first place.. their Microsofts little ***** remember?
I wonder if optus doing this has anything to do with Singtel buying them out... Macs do cost alot more than PCs and if they were put on a strict budget they might of had to change over. Well as soon as they see their computer service bills escalate in 3 months they'll be sorry.
Or maybe some retard mac hating windows 2000 network nerd took over their office IT... That seems to be whats happened to the New South Welsh department of education

What a Crock of Crappe.
Really... Slashing the IT budget? YOU'RE A TELECOMMUNICATIONS COMPANY, YOU NEED INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY.
I was going to get optus cable next year when i move to Sydney, but i really dont trust them with privacy or network stability now.
I know mac machines wouldnt have much to do with their actual servers and such, but it would still be funny if the Optus network went from incredibly stable and good as they are now to a falling apart network of rotting pipes (like telstra) after they switch to PC.
Now who am i going to get broadband off?
