Are PM's lost if recipient's PM inbox is full

Subject line is self-explanatory.

I wrote a longer private message yesterday, when I sent it I received a message that the recipient's inbox was full so the message was not sent.

Two questions:

1. What happened to my message? I don't see an outbox folder or some other folder where that message that could not be sent, is stored, and
2. Does one get a message that one's mailbox is full and that one cannot receive more PM's

While not called Outbox, under Private Messages, you will see Inbox and Sent Items. I'm guessing vBulletin might have kept a copy in the Sent Items folder.

Likely no message that one's mailbox is full, but perhaps some indication if they go there on their own.

Yell at the person who's Inbox is full (of course maybe you can't if their Inbox is full)! Lol

If you got the message that the members Inbox was full right after sending the PM...if it was a long PM and difficult to rewrite later...I would use the back button/history to get back to the PM composition page...then copy & paste it somewhere for resending later.

I don't think the vBulletin PM system is as feature-rich as a full-blown email app that would have something like a draft message folder.

Thanks, but I already checked under "Sent Items", the messages there are only the ones that were actually sent.
The one I wrote which then was not sent is not in any of these folders.

Great advice, just a bit late for me.

I'm a bit surprised that vBulletin still has these types of flaws considering how long it has been around, the number of places using it, and the fact that it is a commercial (ie not free) product.
One should at least get a message that the PM will be lost if not saved somewhere separate from vBulletin and the person whose inbox is full should get a message to alert him to that fact as well.
But it is what it is - so I will try to remember next time when this happens.
It's most annoying losing a longer PM and having to try to rewrite it.

It's been awhile, but I believe the old system was setup to allow Premium Members 100 messages. I don't off hand remember the allotted number of messages that regular members were allowed. Also, when the mail box (PM box) was full, vBulletin would issue a warning to the member that they should save their messages before they begin to be deleted. The messages could be saved as plain text and placed anywhere you desired.

Moderators at that time were also allotted 100 messages, Administrators were unlimited. I don't know what the new limits are for messages (PMs) but I suspect they are the same unless the new version of vBulletin changed that.

Our long standing Administrator, Dennis, would probably have a better recollection of how it works than me.

The category still exists, however, the method of becoming a Premium Member no longer works. At one time a fee could be paid via PayPal that would give a member Premium Membership for one year but that method no longer exists.

Premium Membership allowed more messages (see above) and also browsing the forums ad free. It also gave access to the Premium Membership Forum.

You might notice that some of our members still have a "Premium Membership" title above their forum name. Those are left over from the old version of vBulletin and will likely expire when the time limit on membership is over.

The default number of PM's for forum members is 50. This setting was set to less than 50...and has now been reset to the default amount of 50.

The PM Inbox of the member that was full should now accept more PM's. But if things aren't managed...the Inbox will become full once again.

If the default is 50, then what is the 70 messages shown as allowed for me - is that inbox plus sent combined?

Here's a screenshot of a member's PM info in the same user group as you:



As you can see it says 50. Not exactly sure what's up with the 70 in your screenshot. It could be 50/folder (50 sent & 50 Inbox).

70 seems like an odd number as an allocation - that what struck me.

FWIW: I'm sure I recall receiving an email message maybe a few years ago that my message box was almost full and I dealt with it, but no such thing this time and I was rather surprised it was showing a maximum of 70 messages — total, and by maximum had been met.

But now, it has been purged of old messages to make room for anyting new.
