I was thinking about purchasing an Apple TV but I have a mac mini lying around. Can I do everything an Apple TV on the Mac mini? Is there a point in getting an Apply TV? I can just hook up my mac mini to a TV and download itunes HDTV shows and movies?

If you can get your mini hooked to the TV, then yes. It's absolutely perfect. I wish I could say things like I have a recent Macintosh "lying around"
