Don't forget Apple "Peek Performance" event starts in a little over an hour (10am PST). Lots of interesting stuff rumored to be announced.

Including:

* Low cost iPhone SE with 5G
* More powerful Mac-Mini
* Possibly announcement of the "Mac Studio" computer (a hybrid design between a Mac-Mini & Mac Pro)
* Upgraded iPad Air
* Possibly a new MacBook Air model with a new Apple Silicon M2 CPU.
* Possibly a new 27-inch 5K monitor
* And more

Quick summary of Apple Peek Performance event:

* All-new "Mac Studio" (most powerful Apple computer yet).
* 27" Studio Display
* New iPad Air
* New iPhone SE
* iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro in two new shades of green

Unfortunately no mention of new Mac-Mini models!:(

Also Apple has discontinued sales of the last Intel 27" iMac.

Have to admit that new Studio "Mini" plus Studio Display look great. But at a hefty price. ;)

The new Mac Studio is curious, too. Yes, M1 Max entry at $1999, but the new M1 Ultra at $3999? Yikes!

I really have to re-think replacing my 27" iMac. I was hoping that Apple would replace it with an M1 model the same way they did for the 21.5" model. But it appears they have discontinued the 27" models.

I'm not sure I want to spend around $4K for the combo 27" Studio Display plus the Studio "Mini". Talk about inflation. :rolleyes:

The entry level "Mac Studio" ($1999) is supposed to outperform the base level Mac Pro ($5999)...and probably more expensive Mac Pro configurations.

The "Mac Studio" Ultra ($3999)...is supposed to outperform many higher Mac Pro configurations (maybe even most of them)...with those higher Mac Pro configurations costing $10-$15k or more.

The "Peek Performance" event live stream seemed to say the "Mac Studio" top configuration was faster at both CPU & GPU tasks than any Mac Pro configuration.

Doesn't seem to be a very good time to purchase a Mac Pro...with the new "Mac Studio" being more capable at a much lower cost. Unless there's something being missed.

Nick

p.s. Of course Apple hinted at a new Mac Pro in the future...which I'm sure will outperform the new "Mac Studio"...putting the Mac Pro back on top (as it should be)!:)

You could go for the M1 Mini, get a good third-party monitor and stay under the Studio minimum. I don't think the Studio is targeted at the average consumer. More the Mac Pro crowd.

Apple was probably looking out for me.:) An updated Mac Mini might have made my next Mac buying decision much more difficult. LOL

That just blew the idea of Apple looking out for my Mac budget theory right out of the water.

I was hoping for a new Mac Mini as well.

Not to buy one but to get a better deal on the 2020 M1 Mini.

Unfortunately,Canadians can't buy on the US Apple store.

All the Canadian store shows is a 2018 Intel Mini at $C1189 (which equates to $US930.-)

Wasn't suggesting US Apple store was an option in your case.:)

Point mainly was refurbished M1 Mac-Mini (8GB RAM, 256GB storage) at the Apple store US is the same price it's been for almost a year ($589US)...recent Apple event announcements haven't affected the price.

Traditionally Apple refurbished savings many times seem to hover around 15% (maybe more on higher priced items). In this case...it's almost exactly 15%. ($699 new vs. $589 refurb).:)

But yes...Canadian Apple store a great option for you.:) Refurbished Mac-Mini's in the US Apple store do appear & disappear...I imagine the same thing in Apple Store Canada as well. Apple US had some yesterday...none today.

Oh maaaaaaaaaan. The mac studio. The ultra. What can I sell. I’ve got another kidney I think.

Apple finally offers a true powerful headless Mac. The mini was close but always not quite. But this, now this has possibilities. I may need to wait a while and see if they show up in the refurb shop. I bet they’d be snapped up fast there so better hone my mouse skills!

I thought you had already given up a vital organ or two for other gear. :smileBe careful, you don't have many left.

At this rate I’ll need a Mac I can plug into my head via thunderbolt.
