I don't know if this is the appropriate forum to post this, but any help will be greatly appreciated.

I have had an Apple ID for a long time (since 2005, if I'm not mistaken) and it has always worked fine until recently.

This Apple ID was NOT my email address, it was just a random nickname. I just bought an iPad, and I don't know if it is related to that or not, but at about the same time that I registered the iPad, my password for my old Apple ID stopped working at once for all of my gadgets (MacBook Pro, iPhone and iPad) when I tried to download something from iTunes or the App Store.

I tried to use the feature "Forgot my password" on the site to which I was redirected by iTunes, but it was like that Apple ID never existed. It asked for my date of birth, for the purpose of verification, and even though I answered it correctly 2 or 3 times, it told me that it was not the correct one.

I then tried to log in using my account primary email, restoring the password for that email, and then it worked fine. Now, I can log in using that email as my Apple ID, but it seems like my old Apple ID is lost in a "limbo". The old password doesn't work, the new password doesn't work, and when I request for an Email Authentication to be sent to my email for the old Apple ID, no email arrives.

Since I have all of my information attached to my old Apple ID, I'm afraid that it might have been hacked, or something. I'm really struggling to understand what happened.

Anybody who has any insight into this and can help me out, I'll be very grateful.

Thanks.

G'day and welcome to the forums.

Apple ID issues

hey people...

work with me on this ok...

I have at least one Apple ID. (probably more - one from my old ipod and a new one from my new iphone...)

The original one was with my old ipod... so it was just a "password" (not an email address as required now)

Anyway... I can't remember either the ID or the password (for the original ID) for the life of me.

So I go to "Find your apple ID" and enter my details and every current and previous email address I can think of...

nothing comes up. (though I KNOW I set up my current gmail address as an ID on my new iphone only a few weeks ago)

so I go to "reset your password" and enter my gmail address and request an email authentication... and days/week later nothing has appeared in my inbox (yes... I checked the spam filter)

I do the same thing using my work email address (just in case) and no email ever appears.

I've also done both of the above email address's with the date of birth option... and it tells me that my date of birth is wrong.

So *now* I'm sure that I must have stuffed up the more recent creation of the Apple ID and go to create a new ID from scratch using my gmail address... and guess what?

Apple tells me that the chosen ID, my gmail address, is already in use.

so the Apple ID that I want to use is already being used... (apparently by me)

but when I request a password re-set... I receive no password.

*insert head banging icon*

Any suggestions?

DW.

You can call up Apple support lines and they will help reset the password for you. You don't have to have extended service on anything as long as you have owned an iDevice or iTunes you should be good to go.

Apple servers do not accept nickname logins anymore and if you have used an email ID with them previously it has auto detected the same and set that for you. But since you have never logged in using your Apple email it is locked for activation. Does this make sense?

yes. thank you.

Is this something I could possible do at a Mac-Store?

Otherwise I'll call them up right now!

Can't thank you enough!

Can anyone weigh in on the likely hood Apple would resurrect 3 old iTunes passwords for content I bought in 2006-2008?

I used various emails, lost all the passwords, and some of the emails (gmails) have been deleted so no chance of recovery. Surprisingly I still have the content on my external drives (all of this content is CSI episodes).

I just plopped down $599 for a new iPad 3rd gen., so the possibility of me repurchasing these lost episodes are slim at the moment. I mean I will repurchase them if I have to, but if it will save me close to $120 or so for these three seasons I'd appreciate it.

The only way I can prove I own/bought these is under Get Info it has my name as the purchase but it lists a long-ago deleted email.

Any advice?

Email/call Apple and see what they say? At worst, their answer will be "No".
