What test(s) are you planning on taking?

Peachpit Press offers course based books. MacTek offers training as well. There are many other resources for third party trainers, but it really depends on your focus of study. I'd say if you have been using Macs for years and notice the differences from OS to OS, taking the 10.5 ACSP would be easily obtained with a quick look at the Peachpit book. ACTC would require medium OS X server background knowledge and a longer look at a book as well. Apple not unlike MS wants you to know the little idiocyncracies about their products. So if you've tested for any other certs you'll know what I mean.

I'll likely start with the help desk cert first... ACHDP I think it's called. Requires one exam.

I am A+ certified as a PC technician (just got that one back in Feb).

ACHDS is being retired and is available through this current year. It's based on 10.4. The current cert is ACSP and is based on 10.5. They both require one test, their respective Support Essentials for 10.4/10.5. 80 questions and if I remember 75% is passing. I'd suggest the 10.5 test. You'll get more mileage out of it. If your a 10.5 user, get the Peachpit book, brush up and take the test.

I am running 10.4 so I figured this exam is fine for me. plus the 10.5 exam costs $50 more.

If you fail the exam do you have to pay the course fees again to resit the exam?

my guess is yes. thats how it was for my PC A+ cert. Luckily I passed that the first time.

I just took and passed the 10.5 Support Essentials Exam. A little practice and a lot of review with the Apple Training Series book was all I needed. Call it 3 weeks, avg 2hrs/day. I found this site: MacTekkie. It gives a good overview of the test and how to prepare for it.
