Apple beat out by HP for Michigan laptop program
November 25, 2003 - 10:15 EST Michigan officials are recommending Hewlett-Packard over Apple and others to provide laptops for sixth graders across the state. HP was recommended for the state's "Freedom to Learn" contract because it agreed to charge no more than US$275 per student per year. The HP contract could cost a maximum $35.75 million if all 130,000 sixth graders in Michigan get a laptop.

My Comments: I wonder if HP is taking a loss on this just so they could beat out Apple? maybe they are actually making a bit on this... Thoughts anyone?
