Hi, my youngest had an old G4 in is room that he didn't use anymore and I though about giving it away, I deleted all accounts and data and did a last software update (haven't one done in many years). It had 6 updates (Itune, Safari, some security update but no OS). After it finished, it rebooted and proceeded at installing all updates. Once done, it rebooted one last time and.. all I have is a black screen now :-( It chimes as it boots and will even go in standby if left alone (pulsing yellow light). Keyboard capslock toggles also and will beep if an incorrect key is pressed. Seems to be working, beside the screen being now black. Any way I can recover from this ? Would hate to simply throw it away.

Thanks.

Edit: I no longer have a boot CD for this Mac.

Who knows? The CRT may have given out coincidentally when you were doing the updates or perhaps something else broke - graphics? In other words, it's not worth fooling with since it's value is probably around $25 to $50 if it were working perfectly. Give it to Goodwill as is. Maybe they can fix it and sell it.

Thanks for the reply. I managed to get the screen to work by starting in Verbose mode (Command V at boot). Told it to reboot once at the login screen to start it back in standard mode and it's black again. Screen isn't dead. Something in the update screwed it up. I live in Quebec, no Goodwill here so it's either I get it working and give it or it's at the curb...
