My brother, excited by the opportunity to disassemble a macbook without the pressure of an expected outcome, simply removed the disc drive, which had been out of service for the past 5 years and did some light cleaning. It now functions exactly as it ought short of a tendency to want to shut down if left running unattended for about 30 minutes or more, which is prevented if safari or other programs that require permission to close are running. It might not have a long life ahead of it but I think I can get at least another year out of it. ^-^</p></blockquote><p></p>
