how does one re download a lost app that is marked as installed?

Go to the Mac App Store and sign in with your Apple ID & password and then click on "Purchases". The app that you already purchased and downloaded should be listed. Just download it again.

Thank you yes, but the problem is that it says it is already downloaded. I think one has to delete the vacant icon and then refresh the iPod etc. It seems to be the case.
