I'm trying to update the icon on my 30gig Ipod Photo.

I go went to the Apple site and downloaded "ipod updater."

Next I unzip the ipodwizard. The issue is that the only firmware updates include:
IDR Firmware-1.1.4
IDR Firmware-2.2.2
IDR Firmware-3.2.3
IDR Firmware-4.3.0.1

I don't see the firmware update for the photo ipod (5.4.0). Can I use anyone of the firmware's listed above?

Is a Windows PC absolutely needed for this? Also, it doesn't make any difference whether your iPod is formatted in Mac OS X or Windows XP right as I formatted my iPod Mini in Windows so that both systems can use it.

Also, the software version on my iPod Mini is also only 1.3 even though 1.4 is available on the Mac version of update because on my Windows PC, even though I downloaded the latest software, it still thinks 1.3 is the latest and therefore, won't update my iPod to 1.4. Only when my iPod is connected to the Mac will it ask if I want to update to 1.4 but I can't since my iPod is formatted in Windows.

Go into the help file (under help menu) and then click on tutorials it tells you exactly what to do.

Alterpod will not work on a Windows-formatted iPod. I tried it on my Mac with my Windows-formatted iPod (yes it's handy being able to use it with my different computers) and received an error message (cannot recall what it was now), and tracked down that it's because Alterpod (if memory serves) reads and writes directly to the raw (Unix) device (i.e. /dev/disk1s2) which has to be formatted with an Apple partition in order for the software to work.

You could still use one of the PC tools (probably using Virtual PC) to hack your iPod though.

Just please, whatever you do, don't put Hello Kitty on it :)
