I renewed my subscription for mlb.tv over the offseason and in the meantime, switched from pc to mac and forgot the site requires WindowsMedia Player. for all intents and purposes (read: not using a windows OS), am I screwed? is there a way I can get this to work in firefox? safari?

Flip4Mac should work. You can also find Windows Media Player for OSX but I have had overall better luck with Flip4Mac.

Definitely Flip4Mac, as Microsoft is no longer supporting the Mac version of WMP.
I've had no problems with F4M as a player or browser plugin.

I don't know if you'd even have any interest in upgrading, but the MLB TV premium service they're offering this year is pretty sweet. I've had the regular version the last two years, but this year's Premium service offers some nice stuff:
Twice the resolution on video

The new Mosaic software (Mac compatible) allows you to watch up to SIX games at once (with the ability to select any single game)

Track favorite or fantasy players and it will alert you when they're coming to bat, etc.

In just two days of using it, I've been really impressed with it. Definitely worth the $5 extra per month during the season.

Flip4Mac is the way to go!

I love Flip4Mac for watching the live streams, but it leaves something to be desired for watching archived games.

Archived games on a PC (using WMP) start right before first pitch.
An archived game, however, on Mac thru F4M starts the stream, and then 35 minutes later, the game video will appear (at the start of the game - I haven't missed a pitch, and the progress bar shows 35 minutes elapsed). What's in that 35 minutes? In one case, it was an animated MLB.TV logo screen (it was indeed being streamed, and not a still frame). In another instance, it was filled with a loop of MLB.TV's inane preview short, over and over and over until the game video starts with the first pitch. None of this appears in the same stream being played on a PC.

MLB says that I MUST use WMP 9 (released in '03), but even with their help I was unable to get it to work with either Safari or Firefox.

Their solution? Refund, which I declined.

For those of you using F4M with MLB, does it work as described above for archived games? Or are you getting more success than I?

Does Flip4Mac run in the background and automatically convert files ordo you have to open the program?

Cheers

It's a plugin for Quicktime, so it works automatically when Quicktime plays a movie in your browser. You don't need to open it.

I just downloaded it and paid $35 Canadian for the upgrade which gave me a serial number but I still do not get the option of checking the plug in box. Can someone please help.

Thanks

The page “The Sun Online - Video: Exclusives, interviews and shoots from The Sun online” has content of MIME type “application/x-mplayer2”. Because you don’t have a plug-in installed for this MIME type, this content can’t be displayed.

This the message I get trying to view video files. Should flip4mac convert this?
