Hi,
I want to make a screen recording including audio using using Quick Time.
Worked fine for a while using "Loopback Audio, but then in the middle of the recording a message came up that they want $US99 for a license.
I think that is a ridiculous price for that functionality especially since I would only use that a few times a year.

I also have "Screenflick Loopback" on the Mac - not quite sure if that will work or why I even got that app in the first place.

What can people recommend to do a QT screen recording with sound.
Sort of surprising that I nee a special application at all for the audio portion.
I'm currently on Mojave.

BTW - I also tried the obvious in Mojave - Shift - Command - 5
But all I get for sound is white noise.
In sound preference input "line" is selected and output "headphones"
Looks like "Loopback" is overriding that and feeding noise into the recording

That appears to be an extension that is part of the Screenflick proogram which records system audio. See here for more info: https://www.araelium.com/support/screenflick/system_audio

I am currently using Audio Hijack for thesse types of recordings. It's not free but it's not $99.00 either and has the benefit of doing other audio tasks as well.

There are other alternatives here but I haven't tried them personally https://techwiser.com/mac-screen-recorder-with-internal-audio/

May I just endorse Audio Hijack. I have no connection to the company or product, but it does the job you are looking at.

Thanks Slydude,
I use Audio Hijack as well but that will only record the audio as far as I remember.
I finally got rid of the white noise - that was still there becauseI hadtried to use QT before with loopback.
Shutting down QT stopped that.
Then I uninstalled Loopback, so that is gone.
Ran the screen recording in Mojave using shift - command - 5 with great expectations since it is a brand new, but that also only recorded video and no sound.

You're right Audio Hijack is audio only. You have to "marry" it to the video in a separate step. Not a majpr issue for me since I'm not matching the video with facial expression.

Unless I misread the discription Capto might get the job done for you https://www.globaldelight.com/capto/ I haven't used it yet personally but it's interesing enough I might experiment with the free trial.

That synchronization of video/audio is why professional movie makes use the clapboard. The video of the clap and the sound of the clap can be easily synced. Maybe if you use Audio Hijack, you can incorporate a clapboard into your recordings?

Let us know what you think of it. I've got some videos to do this week. I usually get those out using a combination of iMovie, QT Player X, and Audio Hijack.

I've already got the raw footage for one or two videos but after that I'm planning to experiment with Capto and see how that goes.

Thanks everyone for their comments.
Turns out that looping the headphone output to the line input on my 2012 Mini worked perfectly.
That together with Shift - Command- 5 gave me video & audio.

But Capto might be a good option for Macs that don't have an in and out audio port that can be looped

When old faithful SnapzPro went away, I searched for something that would allow screen-recording audio, or video, or both -- finally purchased Snagit from Techsmith.com. It was $50, but in addition to capture, there's also a pretty decent suite of post-recording editing tools.
