All Memory Lost

yesterday, my imac that is running on OSX has lost all its memory files.
everything from music in Itunes, Iphoto, and all my document files,...
i dont know how or why this happened.
can anyone help me?
any way to find where these files have gone?
into thin air?

what was the last thing done on the comp? was it erased on startup or during a program? Were you reinstalling something perhaps?

Yes, we'll need a bit more information to attempt to assist. Also, do you have another Mac? Do you have an acquaintance with a Mac? Would it be possible to boot to your iMac in Target Mode to attempt to recover your lost data?

this was not during an installation, computer was turned off the night before...turned on the next day and files were gone.
i have a IMac & an Ibook...
what can i do?

So the OS is still intact? Did it boot as it would have a fresh install? Do you have backups?
