In windows, I had an intel wireless utility that showed a list of available networks, if they were secured or not, and signal strength. Is there a utility or widget for the macbook that will show the same information for the airport?

theres coconut wifi v1.3 - http://coconut-flavour.com/coconutwifi/

However that only tells you if the wireless network is secure or not, it does not show the signal strength.

there's also this widget: http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/networking_security/jiwirewifihotspotfinder.html

http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/networking_security/networkstat.html ...... This is something different but what it does is send an email whenever your IP address changes, so if your laptop gets stolen, the police can track it...

If you open the Network prefs, you can put the Airport icon in the task bar. This will show you a list of all the networks your computer can see. Mine shows about including my own right now.
