Airport Extreme + Comcast Modem

Wonder if anyone can help me with this. I have a comcast broadband modem and a new airport extreme. If I plug the airport extreme into the comcast modem - it goes through its thing and the light goes green... however, no wireless network is created! If I go out the comcast modem into a router and then to the airport extreme - no problem at all - it works flawlessly.....

I know I must be doing something wrong - but can't figure it out... Suggestions?

so what are you saying, that wireless works if you run it through the router?

thats even weird then my problem. all i know is that the airport extreme has some problems running b/g/n. works flawlessly when running n only at 5.0ghz.

so now im running 2 wireless networks at home. one for b/g and the other for my N. hard life!
