Hello there,

Having issue connecting airplay on my Macbook Pro to my LG smart tv.

Macbook pro: 13 inch, 2019

I get the error message mentioned in the subject.

When I mirror with my Iphone 10, it works perfect.

Just updated OS to 10.15.5 - no help

LG tv fully updated and airplay is setup.

Anyone know a solution?

Welcome to our forums.

Do you know if the LG TV you have supports Airplay 2? If not, it may require a firmware update before it will work with your MacBook Pro.

Be sure to check your LG manual or you can go on line and check it out there.

Airplay may work okay when you mirror your iPhone X but that's not the same as your TV.

LG has AirPlay support in at lest some of their 2019 models. Of course I bought a 2018 model last year. That's the story of my life when it comes to electronics.

When I checked into this a few months ago they were supposedly planning to roll out an update that provided this capability to older models. I haven't seen it yet for my 2018 model. Some of the comments I ran into while investigating this suggested that the support folks were, shall we say, less than knowledgeable, on this topic.

My LG is manufactured 08/2019.

Looks fine in the menu. Airplay activated.

Have newest software for both MacBook and TV.

And it doesn't work.

Seriously - If this was 15 years ago, I could understand if this would be an issue.
But two huge brand as LG and Apple, 2020, can make simple stuff like this work on the fly - is beyond me.

When you say "LG tv is fully updated and Airplay is setup", do you mean on your TV, and is it an "Airplay 2" device?

Well - the user manual and user guide for the TV is so badly made, that it doesn't mention airplay at all.

Though in the home-dashboard (a mode in LG) Airplay is activated, and works with my Iphone X.

I looked at some YouTube videos where people are using airplay, and the menu's look identical.

Of course there's no way to know for sure if it's AirPlay 1 or 2.

Could try and contact LG support I guess.

Let us know what LG says. However, Apple specifically states that it must be Airplay 2 in order to work. As I mentioned above, it's possible that LG has a firmware update for your TV in order to make Airplay 2 ready.

I know it seems cliche and simple, but there's a reason why someone always asks...have you tried rebooting the MacBook Pro?

If you are still unable to get AirPlay working, you could try using this app perhaps?

If it's working with your phone then we know that some things are working correctly. Are both devices on the same network? Ot sounds like a simple question but it's not an unusual thing to have one of the devices not join the network properly or join the wrong network.

Which version of iOS are you using on your iPhone X?
