One negative vote for Adium here.

I was so optimistic about it. I got it, even got a lil intel iMac duckie icon for the tray, customized a few other things here and there.

Then it happened. the "show current itunes track" option stopped displaying what I was listening to, it was blank! Also, my IM picture kept switching through the pictures in my old ichat library, and would never stick on the one I selected!

Anyway, I followed what someone said earlier and went back to iChat and added Chax (because I was happy with Growl on Adium.) Happy for now :)

I always go with Adium. The whole chat bubbles tend to annoy me compared the straight forward USERNAME:Message format

I LOVE my mac... it's the best computer ever. The only thing is, I'm a frequent AIM (AOL Instant Messenger) user and the Mac version of AIM is extremely sub-par to the Windows version. It has basically no added features and hasn't been updated in what seems like YEARS. Has anyone heard about this? What's up with that, so many people nowadays, especially college students, have Macs... you'd think they would update the program. It's frustrating.

When I first got it, it would randomly shut itself off but i realized that was because i had side scroll turned on and every time I used it, it would shut it off. I fixed that by turning off horizontal scroll and everything has been fine except for the fact that it sucks ***.

I think companies like AOL and to an extent, Yahoo, assume Mac users prefer using their proprietary apps like iChat and this is often the reason they don't get updated. Id never install AIM on my Mac because there are at least 5 other ways of using AIM without installing never ending chat clients on my machine.

I use my AIM account (zoolook1972 if anyone wants to add me... ;D )for iChat (I dont have a .mac) - I think most people do this, so AOL don't really have any incentive to keep it updated.

In iChat select View then "Show as Text" instead of "Show as Balloons".

When's the last time you used Adium? As far as I can tell, pretty much all the major bugs have been ironed out since the 1.0 release.

Adium is a great program for AIM. It's the closest to the version of AIM on a pc in my opinion.
