I want to add either 4 or 8 GB of RAM to my 4 GB RAM'd iMac 27" from a non-Mac supplier. Will this affect my Mac extended warranty?

No. Adding memory does not impact the warranty unless you screw something up when doing it. Very unlikely though since it's a very simple procedure that even I can do it. :)

Best supplier of memory in my opinion are the folks at Other World Computing. LINK

Adding more ram will not void the warranty. If you mess anything up then it is voided. If you experience any issues with the ram you installed then they won't cover it that means you would have to pay for the new ram.
