So we all know that little shortcut icon that mac puts into our Photos Folder?

Well, I accidentally put it in the trash (it was mixed in with a bunch of items I had already transfered to an External HD and I forgot it was in there...I didn't empty the trash, but tried to open the new "Photos" app immediately afterward and was told that it couldn't find my iphoto library...the lightbulb went on and I put the icon back in place...little did I know it was actually the real thing...the whole library?! (how stupid is that that mac allows that to be accessed in such a way?!)

Anyway, I fiddled around and I got Iphoto to open, which is weird because I thought Iphoto was replaced by "Photos," but yeah, I see all my photos in there pre-2015, which is not helpful, but I tried to open Photos again, and then got the opportunity to choose a library from which to open, I clicked on it, hoping that it was fixed by itself, but alas, it was simply that same pre-2015 Iphoto library that it drew from...

How can I get the "photos" app to recognize/restore what it really never lost? Like I said, I didn't empty the trash...the library was in there for no more than a minute, literally!

Thanks all.

Okay, nvm, everyone. Crisis averted...man, it's such a stupid thing that mac puts the libraries for photos photo booth and iphoto into the "photo's folder"

I mean, call me crazy, but if you can't access them without an app then why make them even accessible...I guess it could be useful for file transfers, but meh, just my two cents. anyway, Thanks to anyone who might have helped.

G'day nd welcome to the forums.

Okay I will call you crazy as you insist!

Pleased you got it worked out. What operating system are you using as there were both iPhoto and Photo available about Yosemite OS X.10 / Mavericks OS X.9? Did you place the items in the Trash on the desktop, in the trash in iPhotos/Photos or on the external. Interestingly they each have slightly different ways they empty. The external has to be powered on and still connect when you hit Empty Trash, otherwise when you power down everything goes back to its original possie. iPhotos has its own Trash can which you empty whilst the application is open and the desktop, well the usual old way. With three safeguards I am sure everything was there, just needed to be found.
