Adium would work just fine, as would iChat. AIM for Mac is really not that great, and with other options available that use your AIM account, there is really no need to use it. :black:

Ok, Just fired up my old G3 B&W 300Mhz with 384Megs RAM and Jaguar 10.2.8 and Adium works fine. It will work great on your system.

i tried it and didn't really care for the interface much...when i used PC's, i had Trillian Pro which was very friendly, and had the features i wanted.. i want to be able to control my im's better (like sometimes i only want people on my buddy list to im me, and sometimes i wanna talk to everyone), and in trillian, i could rename my contacts like say the buddys screen name is XxMicrosoftSucksXx, in trillian i could type his name into the contacts list as say "Bill Gates"...

That's cool about Adium, it is really customizable. Go to preferences and select Appearance, then try some of the different colour themes...
You can sort them the way you like and also have it display a nickname instead of the screen name.
You can also get more themes from adium xtras.

yes it looks cool and all, but is there ANY IM PRIVACY controls? i use the computer while im working and sometimes i don't want to be flooded with stray im's, and would like to be able to select "buddy list only" when im working, and "allow all" when im not busy....

Well you can block users, but I don't think there is a 'privacy' option as such...

But it's probably on the way...

Having said that, I don't think I've ever had IM spam..?

i just dont like being bothered by the tons and tons of Porn Im's and stuff like that when i'm working / in a bad mood...sometimes, i only wanna talk to people on my buddy list... but i guess if no other program can satisfy my requests, i'm stuck with AIM...BLAH ...its an AOL product...

i did some exploring and figured out where aim saves the file to.. if you want to remove recent screen names you have im'd before from the im window..navigate to your user folder (mine is Macintosh/Users/dennisleslie/) and open the Library folder, open Application Support folder, then open AOL Instant Messenger (SM) folder, and delete the file "History Menu State Information"... then start or restart aim, and initiate an im.. VOILA'! the history list is cleared! AIM will then recreate the file and start the list fresh again.
