I can see this happening. It will be the touch with ipad hardware but called a ipad nano. And the touch itself will not be sold anymore.

I already have a smaller iPad - in fact two of them, one with 3G and the other without. They are called an iPhone 3G and an iPod Touch respectively.

Are we talking of a medium-sized device, i.e. between iPhone and iPad, or just a rebadging exercise?

Probably re-badging just like the MB/MPB re-badging exercise that happened a while back.

No.

I have my doubts, and this is one of those doubts.

Yeah, it'll go on sale right after the iPhone Nano, which started getting rumored right after the iPhone came out (maybe even before).

Don't forget iPod touch nano. I think "nano" is synonymous with the basic iPod line only (no touch screen, no WiFi chip etc.)

Maybe... I could see if the "iPhone HD" (or whatever they'll call it) came out with a 4.X inch screen, they could keep the 3rd gen iPod touch selling, and release an "iPad Nano" as the new iPod touch to the new iPhone.

The iPad is only three times larger than the iPhone/iPod touch, there really isn't a place in the lineup for an iPad nano

Stupid speculation.

Apple spent a LOT of time, research and money getting the size/weight/shape ratio for the iPad *just right.* Anyone who think they'll throw that out the window to sell a cheaper version to "lowest-price-rules-all" idiot consumers just has absolutely NO concept of what Apple is all about.
