A rant inspired by a pointless OSX Vista argument on LJ.

I think therefore I don't use Vista.

-------------
Ghods, all these years I was a Windows user, I hope I was not as pig ignorant as the *******s I find defending the Microsoft FUD machine.

I wonder how many egos are wrapped up in the "I have a real computer" mentality? The idea that you should HAVE to know more about your computer to keep it running is flatly insane. Its not a niche device anymore, you would not accept that for a moment in an automobile.

I'm old, when I started in home computers you had to LOVE them, they did noting and cost a lot. Now people want a computer to be as easy to operate as the idiot box, turn it on, turn it off, end of story.

But in the end the geeks "and I include myself in this" will lose, ultimately for the same reasons we brag. Yes, a skilled computer user can keep a PC clean and functional. Thats true. I do it myself. This sadly, is meaningless. The vast majority of computer users are pig ignorant of how their computers actually work in both the Mac AND PC worlds. And they really don't care to learn.

And in the end the market forces will support computers that can be worked and kept functional by the computer illiterate, because thats where the MONEY is.

The people who WILL win will be the people who build computers usable for "Joe and Jane Six Pack", who right now are getting very sick of PCs that disintegrate in a year without competent care. They drag their crap to Geek squad and hope it comes back better than when they dropped it off. It usually does not.

I repair a lot of these for neighbors. I can undercut geek squad quite a bit.

Mac sales up %44 from last year and the curve isn't even slowing down, the Mac share of the laptop Market is ever expanding, A few years ago if I saw a MacBook in a hotspot it was a novelty, Now its common. In some places the PC is the odd computer out. Microsoft will be the big boy for a long time to come, but its day in the sun as Microsoft=computer is over with. Vista's dismal sales to upgraders alone shows that. "most of their very inflated numbers on Vista sales are driven by OEM installs" As does the fact that major PC builders are finally wiling do go against Microsoft for alternatives.

As for me, I didn't buy a Mac because "everyones doing it" like they say, I bought it as I got tired of the fact that with Microsoft I was spending more and more time every day making my computer run right, Now I don't have to my computer simply DOES run right

I think its funny we are derided as "sheep" with a ten percent market share, if we are the "followers" we should be the majority. :) The followers are the people buying substandard computers, and inferior and insecure operating systems because "Microsoft rules". Or my favorite one "Microsoft must be the best, it has the Biggest market share! "

I always loved that one, and McDonald's sells the most hamburgers so it must make the best food in the world too! Faulty Logic.

Time will tell, I know computers and I know what works. And I know what's secure.

Lastly I won't support any company that controls, what I can and cannot do with my computer, I run what I want I patch what I want, and I update when I want. And I won't replace my hardware because the RIAA and the MPAA want my operating system geared to their needs instead of mine. When they buy me a free computer we can talk about what THEY want.

The sheep are the ones who will buy anything no matter how faulty it is, and just make excuses for it, a lot like the present American Presidents remaining fans........

He had the top market share a few years ago as well. Think about it.

That was a great rant, until the last 2 lines. Bringing politics into it, in a place like this, was not needed to make your point. In fact, it detracts from an otherwise great post.

It wasn't meant that way. If its any consolation. :/

I I told you I used to be a Windows user and I switched, well I used to be a Republican and I switched too, for most of the same reasons. "And no I'm not a Democrat I'm an independent"

It was the simplest example of Poplar today is not popular always I could come up with. If to many people say t bugs them I'll take it down.

I have no idea what that was about, but it seems to me that if Joe and Jane Sixpack are really as dumb and ignorant as you say they are, you shouldn't expect them to act any other way.

It's more likely that 90% of computer users don't care to spend any time whatsoever fiddling with their computers. They buy it, plug it in, use it and when it breaks they either take it to PC world to get it fixed or buy a new one. A computer is about as exciting as a microwave to them.

You knocked me down my rep for DISAGREEING with your politics????? Thats just cheap.

Welcome to why I'm an independent. :(

Can anyone suggest to me a more free speech minded forum? This is the LAST new post I will make here. I promise.

Just tell me someplace a little more anarchic, and I'll be on my way. Someplace where you can speak your mind.

I've already had religious harassment from a moderator who I will not name, this is too much.

Thanks

Nah, you can speak your mind here. Just hold off on cussing and personal insults (I got banned for that a while back :D ).

I got a neg rep for a post I had made two weeks earlier, which I had admitted was wrong, and apologised for. Someone still found it necessary to take a swat and tell me I had posted 'incorrect information', even though that had been very clearly established in the thread.

It's funny. Don't take it personally, some people just like giving red pips.

I still would prefer to find another forum, I don't mind hostile users in a forum where I can reply freely.

And I really don't care for the censorship here, I've been annoyed since I got Jesused on by a mod. And If I don't feel free to speak my mind, why bother?

I'd just as soon go elsewhere.

No, I left you rep for bringing politics into someplace where it doesn't belong. We have enough Mac vs PC flame fests here that we don't need to bring politics into any of this. It would not have mattered to me if you had used any other politician past or present, I still would have left you the rep.

For those who moan about people NOT leaving their names when giving neg rep, this is why most don't. Now imagine this post multiplied 15-20 times per day, or more throughout the forums, and you get the idea.

I'd just as soon go elsewhere.

You are free to do so, as is anyone.

I don't want to fight, I simply want to know if anyone can suggest another forum for me to go to before this whole thread gets censored ?

hmm, when did Mac get 10% of the market share? i though it shared 5-7% with Linux and other disto's....

i liked the rest of the rant and even the politics part didn't bother me, but the response to a neg rep is out of line and a bit pouty. (i will probably get a neg rep for just saying that! ;) ) live with it, it happens.

BTW i got kinda lost in there......were you ranting against both MS and Mac? i agree with you if your were.

I personally don't feel like you will find another forum where you can speak as freely as you could here. We will miss you, and we hope you will return.

Bye.

you tried? you tried what?

i personally really dug the rant, politics included. and i also think baggss was completely within his right to neg rep you - even if it was specifically for the politics, which i believe it was not (just using it in the way you did as he said).

feel free to rant and complain about people, but just make sure you check yourself when others do the same to you.

Its the speech we don't like that needs protected. This is the anything goes forum. Politics aside its a fact that W's approval rating is dismal but at one time he was popular enough to get elected. Tak was only trying to show contrast. Politics is a hot button for debate right now but its a debate worth having. I wish all 270 sum million Americans would begin exploring ways to express themselves effectively.

I think the motto for our generation should be "get over it". Some things just need said. Too often personal feelings take the lead over common sense. Disagreement is a good thing. One point of view versus the other, and in the middle the truth.

Tak, thank you (though you may not see this?!) That's cathartic readin' right there!

This is the anything goes forum.

And yet there is a sticky at the top of the forum that reads "Not just anything goes in anything goes"...

As I said, he could have uses any other American politician as an example, and I still would have had the same reaction and given the rep. This has zero to do with my personal political beliefs and everything to do with keeping a flame attracting topic out of these forums. Politics draw passion, passion ends up causing problems for many. Sure we all have the right to express ourselves, but I have been in enough forums where politics was brought up and ended up badly. We have a track record here for this sort of thing happening, lets all remember the Global Warming thread. In the end, it's better to just not talk about some things in a forum where they are WAY off topic no matter where you post them.

All that being said though, it's just my opinion, and I expressed it directly to the source. All of which is perfectly acceptable. If he wants to stomp off in a huff because someone might have the gall to disagree with him, that's his problem. If enough folks want to debate politics, then by all means post away. But don't go off whining when it ends poorly. To be honest, from the tone of his posts, it sounds like he already had issues with this forum (a mod went "Jesus" on him?) and this was simply one to many.
