I recently had the LCD panel replaced on my Late 2015 27-inch iMac as it was suffering from image retention. I had it replaced under warranty but on the paperwork I received back from the Apple Authorised Service Provider, it advised the repair cost would have come to about £450 had it not been under warranty. Just mentioning this in case anyone in the UK is wondering how much Apple might charge if the LCD panel needs to be replaced. The fact the display is bonded together with the glass must make it more expensive to replace. If you live in the EU and your Apple Limited Warranty or AppleCare Protection Plan has expired, you may still have a right to request Apple repair or replace the damaged part free of charge (i.e. a statutory claim). In the UK, these rights are governed under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 and provides consumer protection for up to six years in England and Wales, and five years in Scotland. If you make a statutory claim after your complementary warranty runs out, Apple can (but not necessarily would) ask you to prove the fault existed at the time of purchase. In other words, that there was a problem to begin with that is responsible for the fault later on. This is because the law requires the consumer to prove the fault existed at the time of purchase after six months into the contract for the claim to be legally valid. Bottom line: if you're in the EU, try pressing your legal rights before accepting a repair charge.
