my mbp had a bad battery, it said something about service soon. plus it died really quick. i got an aftermarket replacement and it dies quick too. it lasts longer than the original, but not as long as a new battery. i expected to get at least 2-3 hours out of it. any ideas? i read somewhere about calibrating the battery, does that actually work?

Calibrating an after market battery may or may not do any good. The problem is that not all after market batteries are what they purport to be. Some of our users have had good luck with aftermarket batteries, others like yourself not so. Since Apple no longer sells a battery for your 2007 MacBook Pro, it's not easy to find a decent replacement. Can you return that battery and try another?

You might also want to try a PRAM and SMC reset, which is often needed for the computer to accurately gauge a new battery or other component (like new RAM, etc).
