10.3.9 update on G3 B&W

My G3 wont install the update. The installer says the drive does not meet system requirments. I've been running panther fine, what are the new requirments?

Are you trying the update from a download or from the software update? Apple claims that downloading and using the 10.3.9 combo update resolves some installation issues. Also, Apple claims that third-party hardware may interfere, so be sure externals like Firewire drives are disconnected during the install. With my G3 iMac I had to reinstall the original CD drive to install Panther. Once Panther was in I was able replace it with the CD-RW and everything worked.

I was installing it from a dowload because this paticualr mac isnt conencted to a internet connection yet. Once I get the internet going I'll trying using automatic update. Also, perhaps my USB bluetooth device was affecting it, I'll retry with a wired mouse.
