iPad restoring.

Hi
I am trying to get a recently working iPad that Apple had migrated my wife's information to a newly purchased iPad. I am trying to get it restored and I read the particular approach and thought I was actually getting there and then I got a message that my WIN7 machine, with the iTunes installed and upgraded, didn't see the iPad after it took a serious amount of time Extracting Software. I went through the procedure twice and still no success.
The Target iPad is one with an actual physical switch on the front. When I try to turn it on shows that it is 'disabled'. I hold the poer on button untill a 'slide option' displays on screen. I immediately hold the 'physical button' and connect it to the WIN7 machine. I see a connector cable on screen and an arrow to a picture of an iPad. The second time, I continued to hold the ''physical button' all while it said it was 'extracting software'. When it finished extracting it came up and says it cannot find any iPad.
Now I am baffled. Should I do something else, as I followed to the letter, the process they set out on Apple's website. Maybe the fact that the cable on the iPad never really showed as connected (on the display visual) was my problem but otherwise I followed every step (of course the actual cable was connected but I really have no idea what the on screen should look like). Maybe someone can help me to get it restored...
Thanks in advance.

Welcome to our forums.

Let me see if I have this right....

You now have an older iPad that Apple used to migrate your wife's data to a new iPad. And you're trying to restore the old iPad?

Restoring an iPad is rather easy (supposed to be): You attach it to your PC via a USB cable and then start iTunes. You should see the iPad listed in iTunes. From there it can be restored. You will likely need your Apple ID and password to restore it. You also may need the passcode if the iPad had one entered. The procedure is the same if you had a Mac computer rather than a Win machine.

I don't know what you did (explained above) but that is not the way to restore an iPad or iPhone.

OK. I got the procedure from Apples Website. I have the URL it is: If you forgot the passcode for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, or your device is disabled - Apple Support
I have the iPad with the actual power button, which is the second example. I will try what you have suggested but I did get my approach from the 'horse's mouth', so to speak.
I will see if your approach works and get back.

Sorry, but that link is for folks who have a lock on the iPad and cannot remember what it is. Basically it puts the iPad in a mode where all the data is reset to factory new. I think that is not what you wanted to do. I think you said you wanted to restore from a backup on another machine. If I understand that properly, then that is a different process, as chscag has described.

So maybe you can give us a more detailed explanation of what you want to do and what happens. Your first post was a little bit confusing to me.

OK. I will try a shorter version of my issue. The iPad I am referring to is in a 'disabled' state. Apple Store left it in that state when they migrated my wife's content and her Apple User ID. I want to 'restore it to factory, original settings' period. I just want to use it with NOTHING from before on it, whatsoever. My wife never backed it up ever. There is nothing anywhere that I have which is a usable 'backup'. I just want it to allow me to get it setup under my Apple ID and use it, as such. They probably set it to Factory when she bought her new one but too many failed attempts to login have rendered it useless. We were on vacation and I am not sure of what exactly happened. There is absolutely nothing on it that I have problem clobbering. Thanks...

PS I tried to keep it short but I obviously failed ;-((
