Me too. Got to allow your loved ones to close accounts, recover things etc - it's a digital will, in effect.

Ian

Very good advice. Most lawyers nowadays when drawing up a will give that very same advice. However, it seems some folks would like all their possessions including the digital ones to be buried along with their remains.

My wife and my son both have my computer login user name and password but I also gave my son my Apple ID. Both my wife and my son know my password manager master password so everything is in that.
It's about as foolproof as I can make it. Even if my wife and I were to perish in a plane crash along with all our devices my son could still access my password manager which has all my wife's passwords listed as well.
Digital wills are gaining popularity but I was under the impression they were not yet entirely valid in some countries.

Google also have an unused/ inactive account service you can subscribe to where if there is no activity for a set period they notify nominated people of your account details. It is the only one I know of though.

Here in the US it depends on which state you live in. A written and notarized will done up by a competent family lawyer is always best. I don't trust those so-called do it yourself wills since laws (especially tax laws) can be complicated.

And for my good compadre Slydude:

The State of Louisiana has the most complicated family law of any state. (Actually designed somewhat after French family law)
