I am on an iMac running OS 10.14.2. Safari is my browser. When I change sites the page I want comes up but an overlay immediately covers the page I want. The overlay has some the info on the page that I want, but not all of it. How do I stop this overlay from happening?

Can you post a screenshot, or the web page link? Some sites use that to get you to subscribe to their site?

Bob; here is the URL for an overlay;

I don't see any sort of overlay using either Safari or Google Chrome other than the usual request windows that are easily dismissed by clicking the "X".

Maybe post a screenshot of what you get as Bob suggested.

That just looks like some advertising to me which would be expected considering the site.

Here's what I get for a partial page shot with an old version of Safari 9 and even with ads enabled:

I get overlays, when I view news sites like The New York Times, or The Washington Post, but, only if I go there more than four times a month. That is because they want me to pay for a subscription. The way I get around this, is to clear my history in Safari. See if that helps your situation?

Like Patrick, I went to the site, turned off all ad blockers and didn't get the overlay. But to me it looks like a mobile version of the website, so maybe your browser is telling the site that you are on a mobile device. The content of the overlay and the page I get are the same, but the overlay is formatted for a mobile device. Try resetting your browser (warning: you'll lose recents and some other stuff doing that) to get it to report as a full browser and not a mobile one.
