Changing Apple ID while keeping data
My wife has an iMac and two iPads that I need to change over to my Apple ID and email accounts. Is there a way to do this without losing any pictures, documents, apps, etc?

    Thanks.

Before attempting to change the iMac and iPads to your Apple ID, you should make a backup of anything that you can't afford to lose. See the following Apple KB article to learn how to remove those devices from your wife's Apple ID.

The answer to "How to add devices to my Apple ID" can be found here from Apple Discussions.

Rather than go thru all that, it might be easier to use Family Sharing.

Thanks. We already have Family Sharing turned on. I may just copy all the stuff I want to keep to an external HD and go from there.

Changing Apple ID's should not delete any personal data. It should only affect purchased apps/music, etc.

Please backup. Everything has a life cycle, unexpected and warning free. Nothing will last as long as you want it to.

There is a history of all purchased apps under the iTunes account under which all was purchased anyways. Personal data will not be affected.

Thanks everyone. I'll make a backup just to be on the safe side and then just change them over to mine.

Good deal. Always a good idea to make a backup just in case Mr. Murphy pays you a visit.
